Almost 55,000 homes have reportedly been impacted by the rains, with their belongings and temporary homes destroyed.

Heavy storms over the last seven days have worsened the precarious situation of the hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the Gaza Strip, as stated by aid groups.

"Awful" Weather Brings Grave Threats

A representative characterized the weather overnight as "awful", with downpours so intense that around 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"These conditions was exceptionally difficult for the residents. The storms were so intense... And the gusts were so strong," noted the official.

Authorities voice significant worry that young ones living in makeshift shelters in wet garments will contract hypothermia and additional sicknesses.

Casualties and Significant Destruction

Health authorities have stated that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures caused by the storms.

Further statements put a greater death toll. Officials said that multiple structures had fully given way and dozens had collapsed partially.

  • Nearly 55,000 families affected by flooding.
  • More than 40 official shelters submerged.
  • Many people required to find new shelter.

Assistance Efforts Deemed Insufficient

Agencies have increased distribution of tents, warm covers and clothing since the ceasefire began, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid entering.

"We are working relentlessly to bring in that assistance and to allocate it, but the scale of the requirements is so vast that we continue to see many thousands of families and children who are really suffering every night," stated one official.

Future Challenges and Truce Provisions

The next stage of the truce involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of troops, and other provisions.

Relief groups have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing relief to address immediate and future requirements."

The hostilities was initiated by an assault in October 2023. Following military operations have caused a high number of casualties in the territory, according to official data.
