Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
