American Military Executes Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the US armed forces executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Background and Prior Actions
This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Actions Amidst Pressure
The government has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official appeared to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's current government.
